Auctioneer licensed despite felony convictions

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators have given an auction license to a Belcourt man with felony convictions for embezzlement and assault.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators have given an auction license to a Belcourt man with felony convictions for embezzlement and assault.

Public Service Commission Chairman Tony Clark says Douglas John Delorme (duh-LORM) deserves another chance.

The commission held a hearing on Delorme's application for an auctioneer's license before deciding to grant it.

Delorme has felony convictions for embezzlement and witness tampering when he was on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa tribal council in 2002.

In 2007, Delorme was convicted of felony aggravated assault.

Clark says Delorme was impressive during his hearing. North Dakota state senator and former tribal chairman Richard Marcellais (MAR'-sell-ayz) spoke on Delorme's behalf.

Commissioner Kevin Cramer says Delorme was able to obtain a bond for his auctioneer work.
