FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The chancellor of the Fargo Roman Catholic Diocese says the selection of a new bishop is a process that could take anywhere from half a year to a year and a half.

Bishop Samuel Aquila (ah-KWIHL'-ah) has been named archbishop of the Archdiocese of Denver. He's been the bishop in Fargo for about a decade, and he will stay on the job until shortly before his installation in Denver on July 18.

Fargo diocese Chancellor Luke Meyer tells The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/KHcjZI ) that either Pope Benedict XVI or a group of local priests will name an administrator to lead the diocese until a new bishop is named.

The Fargo diocese covers the eastern half of North Dakota and has about 84,000 members.
