Devils Lake, ND (WDAY TV) -- A popular Devils Lake region camping destination is experiencing a pretty big spike in traffic after a tough year last year.

Grahams Island State Park was booked solid for Memorial Day weekend. Last year's attendance sagged because it was nearly impossible to get to the park due to road construction and rising water.

100-thousand people normally pass through the park annually. Last year's numbers were half that.

A 15 million dollar project has raised the only road leading into the park.

Henry Duray, Devils Lake State Parks Manager, says, "This year, the lake didn't go up, actually it's gone down a foot from its peak, which is a relief, for us it's given us time to get a new road built into the park."
