It was chilly out - but you wouldn't know it. Dozens of people were dedicated to taking in the Memorial Day parade.

Pat Egebratten/Parade watcher:" It wakes us up to what our country has been in."

The color guard. Classic cars. The candy. And a high school band. All paying tribute to soldiers who've served our country.

Egebratten: "They are in our prayers. And Memorial Day is an awakening, making us realize what we have."

An uplifting celebration all leading up to a somber, serious ceremony here, honoring those who've given so much so that we can be free.

Inside the packed pavilion people were saluting, removing hats, placing hands over hearts.

"To thank and Memorialize those who've given the ultimate sacrifice."

Sending a message full of impact: Not to take our freedom for granted.

Andy Anderson/Veteran: "It is important that each of us go back to the roots, of the life we enjoy."

It was a full presentation of gratitude from people proudly singing America the Beautiful to the symbolic laying of wreaths on the grave.

This white one, an emblem of eternity.

Andy Anderson/Veteran: "Honor them, as the individuals they were. They have the same hopes and dreams and ambitions that each of us has as individuals."

Whether the dreams were of serving our country, or other dreams set aside to protect it, it's a strong reminder that freedom isn't free.

Lakes area parents who've lost loved ones in the war were given a special distinction and escort to the ceremony.
