Gallup poll focusing on veterans shows the group favors one candidate

(WDAY TV) -- A new Gallup poll focused on veterans, shows the group strongly favors one presidential candidate.

58 percent of vets surveyed say they're backing Mitt Romney, with President Obama getting just 34 percent. To make the news even worse for the president, several of the closely-watched states in this election have large blocs of military voters.

Florida has more than 1.6 million vets. Pennsylvania with nearly a million,

while Virginia and North Carolina each have about 800-thousand.

The majority of veterans voted for John McCain in the 2008 election.
