BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The top oil regulator in North Dakota says production in the state could be on par with Texas within three years and the state ultimately could have 1 million residents.

Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms thinks North Dakota could be pumping more than one million barrels per day by 2015 if economic conditions are right.

Helms tells The Forum (http://bit.ly/MN96en ) that his predictions this week were interpreted by some to mean that the population could hit 1 million by 2015.

Helms says his population estimate was actually pegged for 2020 to 2030.
