Construction accident has claimed the life of a Fargo man

West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A construction accident has claimed the life of a Fargo man. It happened around noon while crews were working at the site of the Sheyenne 9th Grade Center in West Fargo.

West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A construction accident has claimed the life of a Fargo man. It happened around noon while crews were working at the site of the Sheyenne 9th Grade Center in West Fargo.

Construction is shut down here at the site of the new West Fargo High School after the tragic accident. Authorities tell us the victim is a 30 year old man from Fargo. He was working for Scott's Electric out of Wahpeton when a steel beam fell on him.

Detective Derek Cruff - West Fargo Police: “The beam was bolted into the concrete and then came loose.”

West Fargo Detective Derek Cruff says the victim was working on the ground and was wearing safety equipment the 28 foot steel beam fell on top of him. They aren't releasing where he was hit.

Emergency Crews rushed to construction site, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken by F-M ambulance. There were about 10 other workers on scene when the accident happened, none of them was injured.

Osha arrived on the scene shortly after the accident and will do a full investigation.

The name of the victim is not being released until the family is notified. We reached out to Scott's Electric and to the West Fargo School District, both declined comment. It's unknown tonight when construction will resume here.
