BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck this week had a surprise guest who wasn't on the lineup card.
Three-time World Series champion manager Tony La Russa attended the oil expo to hear his friend Harold Hamm speak. Hamm is the chairman and CEO of Continental Resources Inc.
La Russa told The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/KQqzSo ) that he was talking with Hamm a few weeks ago about North Dakota oil development and decided he wanted to learn more. He said the timing of the oil expo worked out well with his plans to attend a Minnesota Twins game.
The retired La Russa won two World Series titles with the St. Louis Cardinals and one with the Oakland A's. He ranks third all-time in managerial victories.
