We all know of the dominance that Grand Forks has shown in tennis through the years, which makes what Fargo South junior Karen Moe accomplished even more special. Moe beat 2 time EDC champ Mimi Yunker Saturday in the East final to become the first non-Grand Forks winner since 1991. She’s the first non-Red River winner since 2000. Moe has had an up and down year according to her head coach. and the win is still sinking in.

Karen Moe – 2012 EDC Singles Champion: “It was so crazy. I just went in there with no pressure really, because I had never beaten Mimi before. I just had so much fun, that’s what it was. I love tennis so much. I just gave it my all, because it was an unbelievable chance that I had to finally make it championship match. I was just playing the best that I’ve ever played before. The first set was done and it kind of hit me that, ‘OK, this is actually happening.’

Moe will be the top seed at state later this week when the tourney begins in town.
