Speed factor in NE Minnesota crash that killed 2 teens

TOIVOLA, Minn. (AP) — St. Louis County authorities say speed and inattentive driving likely caused the crash that killed two Hibbing High School classmates last month.

TOIVOLA, Minn. (AP) — St. Louis County authorities say speed and inattentive driving likely caused the crash that killed two Hibbing High School classmates last month.

Lindsey Gonzalez and Kelsey Perkins, both 17, died in the one-car crash April 28 near Toivola (TIHV'-oh-luh).

According to the sheriff's office, the girls drowned after their car left the road and rolled over in a creek.

The report says alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The investigation found that Perkins was driving with Gonzalez the passenger. Both were wearing seat belts.

The Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/JhVVOb) reports both girls were set to graduate this month.
