Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- He lifted the roof of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, one last time.
Longtime organist Peter Nygaard retired from the bench, after 27 years at Trinity. He's only the third organist to play the Holtkamp Organ, which features close to 3-thousand pipes. One of the largest in the region.
Today, hundreds honored Nygaard for his years of service and dedication. He was also a longtime "Professor of Organ" at Concordia's Music Department.
After hundreds of weddings, funerals, and Sunday mornings, Nygaard decided it was time to watch more football and baseball and retire from the "3-mannual, 45 rank organ."
He ended today's church service by playing a piece few ever tackle -- Vee-door's Tacotta.
The congregation gave Nygaard season tickets to the Redhawks. A search is underway for his replacement.
