Grand Fork's sheriff's office has top dog

Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office has a top dog.

Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office has a top dog.

Deputy Mike Lee and his K-9 partner Gypsy just finished up K-9 trials and certifications at Camp Ripley, in Minnesota.

Gypsy, an eight year old chocolate lab, took first place in the advanced narcotics division. The competition includes article searching, tracking, and detecting drugs.

Lee says Gypsy's small size gives her an advantage.

Mike Lee with the Grand Forks Sheriff's Office says, "Compared to a real big dog. She gets under the dashes and seats and stuff. She works really good in vehicles, that is kind of of her forte is vehicles."

The "Top Dop" competition includes teams from North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and lowa.
