Despite temperatures that rose into the 90's today, over 9,000 laced up their sneakers for the first competitive race of the weekend. The 5K produced a distinctly local finish to the race with the top two spots going to former and current MSU-Moorhead runners.

Michael Mcconnell, a 2011 graduate took home the title finishing in a time of 16 minutes and 5 seconds, beating out Dragon Sophomore Jamison Gehrig. For Mcconnell, it's a good sign he's fully recovered from some recent injuries.

Michael McConnell – 2012 5K Winner (MSUM Grad): “Well, coming into the race I wasn't sure where my cardio or my fitness level was at. Now that I've finished, I'm not sure what my time was, but I felt pretty solid throughout the whole race. I think that's a good sign that I’m getting my lungs back. My legs are there. I'm just looking forward to some more road races. I'll continue training all summer and just hopefully keep improving.”
