Ottertail-Wadena Community Action Office laying off nearly 70 employees

As many as 70 employees are expecting layoff notices as the Ottertail-Wadena Community Action office in New York Mills plans to close because of a lack of funding. The layoffs are expected in 3 stages.
Twenty-two people will be terminated by June 30th. Another 8 people in the energy Assistance Program will lose their jobs by September 30th when funding ends for that program. The remaining 35-40 employees who work in the Head Start Program will be let go sometime in June of next year.
All of the non-profits services for low income and elderly persons will shift to the Mahube Community Action in Detroit Lakes.
