More than 20,000 runners are expected to take to Fargo-Moorhead streets tonight, tomorrow and Saturday for the Fargo Marathon. Driving around town could get a little tricky over the next couple of days, and there are several road closures you should know about.
If you are planning to travel near any of the race streets, you're urged to use caution and give yourself extra time. Roads included in the course will close as early as 5 Saturday morning, and should reopen sometime around 3 when the race is over.
The first road closure you can expect will be tomorrow. Runners will be taking to the streets for the 5K run-walk. University Drive between 12th avenue north and 19th avenue north from around 5 to 8 pm will be closed. Saturday the street will close at 5 AM and will remain closed until late in the afternoon when the marathon is done.
Another detour to look out for will be on 10th street south. It will be reduced to one lane for northbound traffic between 2nd avenue south and 1st avenue north from 7 AM until 3 PM on Saturday.
South University Drive between 30th avenue south and 32nd avenue south will also be reduced to one lane in each direction from around 8 am until 2 PM on Saturday.
The Main Avenue Bridge will also be reduced to one lane. The south side of the street will be closed until the marathon is completed.
