If it's hotter and more humid than you're used to for the race, hydration is key for runners. Sanford Exercise Specialist Adam Krueger says it is important to start hydrating now for any of the events. You should be drinking up to a gallon of water each day up until the race.

Krueger also advises to drink before you are thirsty and drink at least a glass of water before bedtime, and if you wake up in the middle of the night to drink a glass then too.

Adam Krueger – Exercise Specialist, Sanford: “Drink an extra glass of water before you go to bed, and then maybe if you get up in the middle of the night take in another glass there just so you are hydrating all the way through the night so you don't wake up in the morning and have to drink all of this water and then come to the race and have to go to the bathroom or something like that right before the race.”

Krueger says during the race you should switch between water and Gatorade at each drinking station.
