Law officer housing gets boost in oil patch

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN'-juhm) says he's directing $3 million from North Dakota's share of a lawsuit settlement to subsidize housing for law enforcement officers in the state's booming western oil patch, where housing is in short supply.

The Forum newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/KbwqOu) that Stenehjem made the announcement at the Bakken Housing Conference in Williston. He says the subsidies will help in the recruitment of officers.

The effort is being funded with the state's share of a $25 billion multistate settlement with U.S. mortgage lenders over alleged foreclosure abuses.
