Car collides with Amtrak train near Larimore

LARIMORE, N.D. (AP) — No train passengers or crew members were hurt when a car collided with Amtrak's Empire Builder at a crossing in northeastern North Dakota.

LARIMORE, N.D. (AP) — No train passengers or crew members were hurt when a car collided with Amtrak's Empire Builder at a crossing in northeastern North Dakota.

The crash happened about 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the train continued on its westward journey about three hours later.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Dolf Oldenburg says the 23-year-old driver of the car was taken to a Grand Forks hospital. The Grand Forks Herald reports that the driver's injuries are not life-threatening. The car hit the train four railcars back from the two engines. Oldenburg says the engines and one railcar became detached from the rest of the train.

Oldenburg says charges are pending against the driver, who was not immediately identified.

The crossing is marked with signs but not with flashing lights.
