There are some new ideas to stay safe if you’re caught in your car during a tornado. For years we’ve heard to abandon your car for a ditch on the side of the road. Now, the Red Cross and others are suggesting that you stay in your car with your seat belt on and duck down. They also say you keep your car running so your airbags can deploy if your car goes airborne.

Dave Rogness – Cass County Emergency Manager: “There's no perfect place to be in a serious tornado, there are degrees of better, best OK and in fact some places are just flat out worst places to be.”

Rogness recommends seeking shelter in a sturdy structure whenever possible.
