Moorhead Police officer honored

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - A Moorhead police officer is being honored for rescuing a suicidal woman, threatening to jump off a bridge.

A Moorhead police officer is being honored for rescuing a suicidal woman, threatening to jump off a bridge. At a ceremony today, Police Chief David Ebinger gave Officer Scott Kostohryz the Life Saving Award.

On February 18th, Officer Kostohryz saw the women climbing over the railing of the 1st Avenue Bridge, above 21st Avenue. Kostohryz quickly decided to intervene, restrained the woman, and brought her to a hospital.

Chief David Ebinger – Moorhead Police: "He kept her from taking her own life, with some degree of risk to himself getting her back over the rail.”

At the ceremony today, the police station also swore in two new recruits.
