Thousands of students are saying goodbye to the two largest colleges in North Dakota. 1,500 of them were at UND. And more than 100 of those students embraced a new tradition at commencement. It's called the legacy cord, students with a parent or grandparent who graduated from the university wore a pink and green cord.

Mark Becker – UND Graduate: "I haven't seen him yet, but I’m excited to show him the cord and stuff and that we share the same connection graduating from UND.”

The cords were a gift from the UND alumni association.

Nearly 2 thousand NDSU students can call themselves graduates.

This spring, 19-hundred undergraduate and graduate degrees were handed out.

At the commencement from this morning, 936 students took part in turning their tassels at the Fargodome.

All of them are undergraduates.
