Progress is being made with the fight to preserve the flying mission for the North Dakota Air National Guard. National Defense Authorization Act, which reports out of the House Armed Services Committee, prevents the retirement of the C-27 J program by the Air Force. That's the North Dakota Air National Guard's mission. Congressman Rick Berg says losing it wouldn't only be devastating to the Happy Hooligans, but to Fargo-Moorhead's local economy.
Representative Rick Berg – (R) North Dakota: “This next week, what is going to happen is that will be voted on, on the floor of the house, and that bill, part of the national defense authorization act, that bill will then go to the Senate, the Senate will either take that bill up, or the Senate will have another bill that is similar, and then those two bills will go to a conference committee for the final resolution.”
A recent report says the Army and Air National Guard combined have an economic impact of $70 million in Fargo-Moorhead.
