Resorts have the light on tonight for the thousands of anglers headed to Minnesota lakes for the big fishing opener. After a winter of repair and updating, many resort owners are preparing for vacationers.
A handful of resorts in Otter Tail County do welcome anglers on this opener weekend, but more and more families are choosing to spend their vacations at resorts, after school is over. As a result the opening weekend has less weight for many resorts compared to decades ago, when anglers used to pack Minnesota resorts.
Wes Jeltema – Shady Grove Resort-Ottertail: “We are getting a lot more family oriented where it is a family vacation and not just the anglers coming out spring and fall are slower than summertime is.”
Last year, the state of Minnesota sold 1.3 million fishing licenses.
