Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- We witnessed something never seen before last baseball season, a losing year for the F-M RedHawks, a campaign without any postseason play for just the second time. The struggles wore on Doug Simunic last year, who is bound and determined to return the Hawks to prominence.

Simunic: "We needed some younger guys, some fresh legs and some with a want to play and hopefully we've got that."

It's a renewed sense of optimism for the Hawks manager. He watched his team start 2011 strong winning 19 of its first 30 games before finishing 14 games under 500. He's brought in plenty of new faces to try and re-charge the lineup, but he's relying on his horses, like former MVP Nic Jackson.

Simunic: "We need Jackson to have a good year, we need Carlo to have same kind of year as he did last year, Penprase we think will do better, we're rolling the dice a little bit, hope the guys buy into what we're doing and have good

years."

This new combination of youth and experience has only been on the field a few days and while the skipper has confidence in his group, they have to prove it on the diamond.

Simunic: "We got to see it a few more games, haven't seen it enough, this is a first practice out here today, have to evaluate, but we're close."

This new version of RedHawks will start the season in a new place, they'll play their first 6 games of the year in Texas.
