Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- In Moorhead, just 2-mail boxes were pulled, but that's left two neighborhoods with no boxes. And it's angered some homeowners.
This morning an employee of the postal service showed up here at the Holiday in North Moorhead and cut the box out of the sidewalk in from the front of the store. The Manager told us they had asked for a box repeatedly for 8 years and finally got one in the fall, now about 6 months later it's gone.
Cindy Gordon/North Moorhead resident: "It doesn't make sense because how long is it going to take them to pick up the mail when they are doing a mail drop here anyway."
Other customers at the Gas Station expressed the same sentiments. It leaves this part of town with no mail boxes.
"Well I'll have to go the post office, and that means that I have to wait for 1, 2 maybe 3 trains. That means that I have to plan a half an hour to get across the train tracks."
"I tell you what I just went to the mailbox I've been using for 8 years and someone stole our mailbox."
Outside the Townsite center just south of Downtown Moorhead another mail box was pulled.
Dennis Ding/FM Resident: "I drove all the way over to the post office and wasted 20 minutes, sat in line behind the other cars just to mail my letter outside."
There are mailboxes with a a pickup inside the office complex but tenants say it's an early pick up and they miss the one outside that got picked up late in the day.
The use of mailboxes has declined at about the same rate as business at the post office itself.
I think it will go down even more because they won't have the convenience of just dropping of the mail.
The Post office says that only an average of 9 letters a day were being dropped. The manager of the Holiday says he plans on telling everyone that comes in to buy stamps and mail a letter here to call the post office to get there box back. Rob Kupec WDAY sixnews.
