Some mailboxes being removed in the FM area

You may be noticing fewer mail drop boxes around town. Every year the volume of mail going through each box is checked and if it drops below 25 letters per box, the post office considers taking them out. In Fargo the only boxes taken out were locations that had multiple ones.

The pulling of boxes in Moorhead, however, has left a couple of neighborhoods without a place to drop their mail. Between the two cities about 10 boxes were pulled. The post office says it is trying to limit the boxes to just slowest ones.

Rene Ingersoll – Moorhead Postmaster: “Several years ago they pulled a number of them but in recent years it hasn't been very prevalent. It's just because headquarters has told us to stop and they wanted to revisit that situation.”
