VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — A 33-year-old man is charged with ramming a Minnesota state trooper's squad car, prompting the trooper to shoot at him.
Kevin Korte of Virginia is charged with two counts of assault, fleeing a police officer and DWI.
The complaint says Trooper Aaron Nevala answered a call Saturday about someone driving into a mailbox. When Nevala approached Korte, the complaint says Korte fled in a pickup.
The trooper pursued Korte to a dead end. That's when authorities say Korte put his truck into reverse and rammed the trooper's squad car. The collision made the squad car inoperable and pushed it back 60 yards.
Authorities say Nevala fired several shots but did not hit Korte. The suspect fled to Virginia, where officers arrested him.
WDIO-TV (http://bit.ly/IQX7tZ) reports Korte appeared in court Wednesday.
