(WDAY TV) -- New information tonight on a February crash near Alexandria that killed four NDSU students on their way back to school.

The Minnesota State Patrol says speed contributed to the crash. Authorities say the driver, 18-year-old Lauren Peterson of Prior Lake, was traveling at 78 mph when she lost control. It was too fast for the conditions.

It was snowing, visibility was reduced and Interstate 94 was slippery when the car crossed the media and collided with an SUV.

The investigation found no evidence of drinking or drug use by the driver, and she was not talking on her phone or texting.
