First draft pick tough to miss at Vikings mini-camp

At 6-7 and 310 pounds, Matt Kalil is one giant man.

Kalil has already been plugged in as the team's starting left tackle, which in essence makes him Christian Ponder's personal protector. The 4th overall pick in last month's draft, says the Vikings run a lot of similar schemes that he ran in college at Southern Cal. And he's catching on quick.

Matt Kalil says, "It's pretty similar to USC. There's nothing I haven't seen before. At USC we did a lot of helmets flying around, basically full-contact with less pads. It's something I've seen before. It's cool to be in a different uniform, on a different team and see all these great players out here."

There was plenty of local flavor at the Vikings rookie mini-camp over the weekend, with a trio of former Sioux and former Bison cornerback Josh Gatlin.
