South Dakota Wind Farm paying more in Taxes than Forecast
WHITE LAKE, S.D. (AP) — The Crow Lake wind farm in southeast South Dakota has paid nearly $800,000 in new tax revenue to three counties.
WHITE LAKE, S.D. (AP) — The Crow Lake wind farm in southeast South Dakota has paid nearly $800,000 in new tax revenue to three counties.
South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson tells the Mitchell Daily Republic ((http://bit.ly/IOBABa ) that the payments are about $300,000 more than was projected for school districts and other government entities in Jerauld, Brule and Aurora counties.
The wind farm was built and is owned by PrairieWinds, a subsidiary of Bismarck, N.D.-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The wind farm became operational last year.
The project has 108 wind turbines. Basin Electric has said that it's the largest wind project in the United States that's owned solely by a cooperative.
