West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- An amazing story tonight about healing, giving, and a special gift from one child to another.
When 17-year old Eleni Wilson of West Fargo collapsed and died from a traumatic brain aneurism during play practice last fall , her family made a decision that would save and change the lives of many people waiting for a transplant.
Eleni's organs would be donated and today, her family would meet a little boy who is alive because of the gift.
It would be a long afternoon of waiting. Then the van from Rochester, Minnesota drove up.
For Maria Wilson, this would be an emotional meeting. It was her beautiful daughter, Eleni, who was taken from them so suddenly. Donating her organs was so far from the family's mind, until Eleni's classmates said it was the right thing to do.
Today, the little boy who received Eleni's organ, today is doing great. What a difference the gift made. From birth, he had been hospitalized two years, never expected to live. His bladder and kidneys destroyed.
31 surgeries, 3 codes and 2 close calls.
But the meeting today was to also a chance for Ryder's mother to reveal a new tattoo, it is a picture of Eleni as an angel, saving the life of Ryder.
An amazing bond between two moms...a little boy and a teen age girl who tonight lives on in the lives of so many families, thankful someone was willing to make the decision to give at a time of such loss.
Every 13 minutes another name is added to the national waiting list, and each day 17 people die while they wait for their transplant.
