Bear, the german shepherd from Fergus Falls, is getting his surgery

Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) -- Bear, the german shepherd from Fergus Falls, has not only achieved celebrity status, but he will soon be headed to the operating room.

It is an update to a story we have been following for several weeks. Bear is a shelter dog at the Otter Tail County Humane Society, who has a deformed foot.

It's believed the foot healed wrong after a bad break. But in the last month, so many people have asked about and raised enough money for Bear, that he will soon be able to get the 4-thousand dollar surgery he needs at the University of Minnesota.

Veterinary Staff at the university also took up a collection for Bear's surgery. Money left over will go to other shelter dogs in need of medical care.
