Looking at something like this you can't help but want to take it for a spin. Now, for a few hundred dollars a Minnesota business is letting people drive something even bigger.
You may remember the story of a veteran in California stealing a tank and taking a joy ride through residential areas. Just look at the power, as he busts through everything from mobile homes to power poles. Right or wrong there are people who see this video and say, ‘that is awesome.’ It's those people who the business "Drive A Tank" out of Kasota, Minnesota are after.
Marie Borglum – Drive A Tank: "This is the only place in the United States that you're able to do this."
Before you get to this, participants are taken through a class, think of it as tank-safety-101. Then it's on to the fun stuff - #400 for the basics, driving through wooded areas; for an extra $550 they'll throw in a car for you to destroy. This is video of the company this week using its equipment to tear down an abandoned house in Kasota.
Marie Borglum: "A house that came up for demolishing, 1 night we were sitting at the local pub and somebody said hey why don't you drive a tank through it."
We talked to a Staff Sergent with the Minnesota National Guard, who specializes in operating tanks. He says this business is using older models; still the power of these machines is unreal.
Staff Sergeant Matthew Nygren – Minnesota National Guard: "It's about 1500 horse power, gas turbine power engine, about 68 tons of moving weight so anything you can imagine to roll over, if you can get those tracks it can go over it."
The majority of the company's clients come from out of state, a lot of them from New York City. They even have had people fly in from Brazil to take part. If you want to check out more on this click on the Easy Link tab.
