A kayak trip near Crookston trip ended with a 911 call for help. Firefighters rescued three UMC students who were kayaking and got lost on the Red Lake River near Crookston Wednesday night and became stranded on the riverbank.
Polk County Sheriff's Office says the men called 911 at just after nine. One of the three had capsized a kayak and was in the early stages of hypothermia.
Tim Froeber – Crookston Fire Chief: “It was all a land base rescue. We had a boat at a boat landing just on standby just in case a boat was needed.”
The fire department officials say the kayakers did not have proper survival equipment or clothing. They were treated and released at the scene.
