Hoeven fights for clearer wet lands distinction
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - North Dakota farmers will soon have clear-cut rules and regulations when it comes to wetlands.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
North Dakota farmers will soon have clear-cut rules and regulations when it comes to wetlands. Senator John Hoeven says farmers face challenges in the field, because wetland designations aren't clear and concise. People will look wetland maps from the 1970 until 2000, to figure out where the wetlands are.
Senator John Hoeven – (R) North Dakota: "We're going to look at that 30 years. We're going to take out the wet years and the dry years, and get a reasonable baseline for determining what is or what is not wet land.”
Hoeven says there should be mitigation options in place, so farmers can offset a wetland in the middle of their field.
