Moorhead construction causing headaches for some drivers

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Drivers in Moorhead may soon be doing everything they can to avoid Main Avenue. Moorhead Public Service started a major construction project from 4th to 8th street that's reduced traffic to one lane each way.

Drivers in Moorhead may soon be doing everything they can to avoid Main Avenue. Moorhead Public Service started a major construction project from 4th to 8th street that's reduced traffic to one lane each way.

It's been quite a nightmare over the last couple hours as drivers just went through their first rush hour with these orange construction cones now dotting four blocks of Main Avenue.

Moorhead Public Service and the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be completing separate construction projects this summer. Right now, MPS is replacing an aging water main beneath the road.

Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes, reducing each to one lane. Drivers are already feeling the pinch.

Julie Martin – Frustrated Driver: “Well, it's a nightmare, that's pretty much my first thought when I got on today.”

Pat Hanson – Frustrated Driver: “It's frustrating, I'm just going to have to find different routes, go down First Avenue, avoid this as much as possible.”

The city hopes it can wrap up construction by July 1st, if not possibly sooner.
