Rabanus Park Basin may be getting a new design

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- People in Fargo are brainstorming ideas to turn a storm water detention basin into a multi-use commons for everyone in the community to join.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- People in Fargo are brainstorming ideas to turn a storm water detention basin into a multi-use commons for everyone in the community to join.

The space these members are working to help design is the Rabanus Park Basin.

People had the opportunity to touch real materials that could be used in the 18 acre grassy space, and draw design ideas on real maps of the area.

Organizers say this is a great way to allow everyone in the community to have a part in creating something that they will use.

Jackie Brookner, project co-leader, says, "it is hard to say how much of the ideas are going to be implemented because we have gotten so many ideas that we could fill ten parks, but I think the idea isn't so much how much, but what seems to be consistent, that makes sense to the most people, we really want it to be what people want it to be."

There will be more open design workshops at the Rabanus Park Basin Monday through Wednesday. They're from 10 to 2:30 and 4:30 to 7.
