WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Nearly $12 million in federal funding is being made available to repair and upgrade the levee that separates Williston and the Missouri River.
The Williston Herald reports (http://bit.ly/IEjqB6) that the Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an $11.7 million contract for repair of the levee and access roads on the south side of the city. The agency says the project will include about eight miles of the levee that provides protection for low-lying areas of the city.
The levee was damaged during the historic Missouri River flooding last year. The corps says the project will restore it to its pre-flood condition. The work should be done by mid-August.
