Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The growth of Junior Olympic volleyball has been huge in the past decade. The J.O. Region championships are this weekend at 5 different gyms throughout Fargo and West Fargo.

Region titles are being decided at 9 different cities in the Dakotas and Minnesota, and the amount of teams has quadrupled in 11 years.

Von Smedshammer, the NCR J.O. Site Director says, "A few years back, we were only doing three different sites here. Now we have five--Shanley, West Fargo high school, middle school and Sheyenne, also the South Arena. It's just amazing how many more girls are playing volleyball now. It's just doubled, if not even more than that."

Over 8-thousand girls are participating this weekend throughout the tri-state region. That's over 840 teams.
