When Kajj Johnson was given choices for Make-A-Wish, he could have gone to DisneyWorld, the Rocky Mountains, or the ocean. Instead, the Fargo 4 year-old decided to pick his "dream job.” He wanted to be a cop. So today West Fargo Police rolled out the welcome mat and swore in its newest officer.
Who in law enforcement shows up for their first day of work in a limo? With a red carpet and fanatic fan welcome party, it was all in a day's work for Kajj Johnson, whose longtime dream has been to be a cop. He arrived in uniform, complete with handcuffs and weapons.
So the West Fargo mayor swore in Cage, then it was time for this policeman's first morning break of the day and his first donut on the job. Life is good. A quick processing for the new officer, including fingerprinting, then news that he, a 4 year-old, was going for a ride later, not in a squad car…but in a helicopter.
The morning had some tense moments as Kajj went on his first police call, a real bad guy. He not only got involved in the chase, he helped make the arrest. Life has been uncertain for this little 4 year-old. A tough battle with Stage Five Wilms Tumor, but he has bounced back.
Alitta Riedhammer – Kajj’s Mom: “Happy all the time, even when he was going through this. There was never a frown on his face, ever.”
When Make-A-Wish approached Kajj's family about a wish, it wasn't DisneyWorld he wanted, but a chance to be a cop that appealed to Kajj. His mother lives with that every day in the car.
Alitta Riedhammer: “Half my day is spent chasing after cars. Police cars, I promise you.”
To top off the day, that aerial surveillance that officer Kajj was in charge of - hopping on a helicopter that flew over the city, and finally to a West Fargo park where his fan base continued to grow. It had been a good day, and this cop will be taking his squad car home with him tonight.
This wish for Kajj marks World Wish Day, which honors the 280,000 wishes that have been granted to children the last 30 years.
