The emergency sheltering of the homeless over the winter months is being considered a great success.
Organizations and volunteers who helped make the program successful met for lunch to go over their accomplishments. They also talked about what they could do to make the program better in the future.
Over the course of the winter nine congregations trained more than 550 people to be volunteers and housed 20 to 23 people a night.
Pastor Sue Koesterman – Elim Lutheran Church: “Incredible, all of the weeks of sheltering went very well, there were no significant incidents at any of the sheltering places, we had fabulous cooperation from the city of Fargo and the Fargo police, and from F-M coalition of the homeless.”
Organizers hope to continue this program next winter, but hope more to end homelessness for good.
