MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot's public school district is gearing up for a busy summer of demolition and construction.
The district lost a middle school and an elementary school to the historic Souris River flooding last year. Other school buildings were damaged. Superintendent Mark Vollmer tells the Minot Daily News (http://bit.ly/JsExp7) that some repair projects are under way, and efforts are proceeding to build additions at two elementary schools and to build a new middle school.
Administrators estimate the flood damage at $60 million, thought the cost of the various projects could go higher. The federal government will pick up most of the tab. The school district sold $9 million in bonds in December to pay its share and has the option of borrowing another $10 million in state money.
