North Dakota man sentenced for assaulting federal officer

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Lincoln man has been sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Lincoln man has been sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

Authorities say 33-year-old Benjamin Gange pleaded guilty in January to assaulting and resisting a federal officer.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says the agent was assigned to help out law enforcement officials in Minot during last year's flood.

Purdon says the agent along with Minot police officers received a call regarding a reckless driver last August. Purdon says Gange fled the vehicle and was chased by officers.

When Gange was caught, authorities say he punched the agent in the head several times. Purdon says the agent also suffered a severe back injury during the altercation.
