A popular app becomes a lesson in teamwork. Nearly 50 Centennial Elementary fifth graders and Davies High School students have been working on a physics project based on the game Angry Birds.
The older kids designed and built the launches. They also helped the youngsters design and build the shields, which protect the pigs, represented by plastic bottles.
The teams tested their launches, seeing who could knock over the most pigs. It gave the kids a chance to learn about science and make new friends.
Sasha Durand – Centennial Elementary 5th Grader: “That you got to experience the chance to meet seniors.”
Connor Linnerooth – Davies High School: “I'm not exactly the one for volunteer work, but after this I really will consider joining a lot more groups and doing a lot more in my own community because I just had such a great opportunity.”
The launches and shields were built out of plywood, cardboard, pop cans and garbage cans.
