For nearly 2 years a major south Moorhead road has been closed as part of a flood project protection project, but the detours may be coming to an end soon.
If all goes according plan this stretch of 40th Avenue and River Haven Road will see reconstruction begin in the next few weeks.
Tom Trowbridge – Moorhead Engineer: “The contractors plan is to get started soon, I don't have a firm date yet but I expect that to be in the next 1 to 2 weeks and once they get in and start working on it if the weather cooperates, It really shouldn't take more than a month to wrap everything up.”
The lowering of this gas pipeline caused the project to be delayed. The last piece of flood wall was finally placed in late October. The flood wall itself also added to the delays.
Tom Trowbridge: “When we built the flood wall we actually had remove some of the weight from the upstream side of it so we lowered the road which means we actually mean we have a higher flood wall then we actually would have had.”
This road will not only help keep the water of the Red River away it should also provide improved drainage for the neighborhood.
Besides the road the bike path and landscaping in the area will be replaced.
