Scramble for ND Sen candidate in Minot district

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Three Minot Republican state lawmakers say they'll be organizing a write-in campaign for the June primary election to keep their seats.

Sen. Karen Krebsbach (KREBS'-bah) and state Reps. Matt Klein and Robert Frantsvog need to get at least 143 write-in votes in the primary. If they don't, they can't be listed as Republicans on the November ballot.

The problem is happening because the three District 40 lawmakers didn't turn in their paperwork on time to get on the June ballot.

Candidates for the North Dakota Legislature have to get a minimum number of votes in the primary to qualify for the fall election.

Democrats will have two House candidates on the ballot — Sue Olafson and former state Rep. Louis Pinkerton. They don't have a Senate candidate either.
