Fargo police officer reprimanded after having items stolen from unlocked squad car

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo police officer has been reprimanded after a thief got away with his handcuffs and other items from his unlocked police car in his driveway.

A Fargo police officer has been reprimanded after a thief got away with his handcuffs and other items from his unlocked police car in his driveway.

The theft happened April 11th. The next day Moorhead police responded to a call where a person was stuck in handcuffs. It ended up being the stolen pair.

Police say the thief also got a taser, and bulletproof vest. The officer is being punished for not locking his vehicle and leaving valuables in the car.

Lt. Joel Vettel – Fargo Police: “And those things we just don't take lightly and we're going to get those things back or do everything we can to get them back and the chief certainly is not happy about these circumstances.”

The case is still under investigation. It's unclear who will be charged and what they'll be charged with.
