Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) -- If you want to get your GED in Otter Tail County, you better crack open the books soon. Beginning January 1st, 2014, it could cost you twice as much to get your GED.

The fees are going up because eventually all five GED tests will be computer based. The extra money will have cover that change.

Right now it costs 80 dollars to take the math, social studies, writing, science and reading tests. By January 1, 2014 that cost could jump to 160 dollars.

Students who haven't passed all five tests by that date will have to start all over and retake the new tests.

The tests will be more rigorous.

But the Roosevelt Education Center will be there to help. They assess students in each of the five subjects and offer tutoring.

Last year, 26 people earned their GED's from the Roosevelt Education Center in Fergus Falls. Statewide, that number was 7,334.

According to Skills at Work dot org, 70-percent of Minnesota jobs will require a post secondary degree..
