Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) -- It was a rainy, wet walk for people in Fergus Falls raising autism awareness.
This first ever awareness 5 K was put on by an autism non-profit organization. Nearly 100 people showed their support for families affected by autism.
Organizers say it's important for people to know what autism is, to make families in feel comfortable and welcomed.
Matt Holmquist, one of the event organizers, says, "This is where we live, and this is where our kids live, they go to school here, we go to the grocery stores here, people see us in public and it is very hard for us to be out in public knowing that our kids are going to melt down at any minute."
People have raised nearly 1,000 dollars, to go toward education and safety materials for Fergus Falls children with autism.
