You could say that the kitchen is like an office for Scott Meldahl, but for him cooking is much more than a job.
Scott Meldahl – PioneerCare Chef: "You're putting a smile on people's faces when they try your food, you know you're making their day a little better with every bite they eat."
Scott is a chef at PioneerCare, a retirement community in Fergus Falls.
Scott Meldahl: "Knowing that there's a time constraint, knowing that you have to get these dishes made or people won't eat and you want it to be done right the first time and you want everyone to be thrilled with it just there's no room for a mistake."
Scott says his experience cooking under pressure would give him an edge in the Chopped kitchen.
Scott Meldahl: "I think I could do well on the show, I also bring a promotion of retirement communities and the quality of food that chefs can provide is the same as the fine dining restaurant."
Scott applied to get on the Food Network show-which pits four cooks against one another. Each contestant has to whip up a delectable dish using ingredients from the mystery basket.
Scott Meldahl: "We've had a little competition in restaurants I've worked in before so I'm kind of use to that so just hoping you know what to make with everything and there's not an ingredient that'll catch me of guard. or "I would not want snakes in my basket"
The winner of Chopped gets $10,000.
Scott Meldahl: "Pay some bills, pay towards my culinary education I still have student loans from, maybe take my family on vacation."
First he has to get from the PioneerCare kitchen to the Chopped Kitchen.
Scott Meldahl: "Prove to myself that I can do it. Prove to myself that all the years I've been cooking has given me the skills that I need to compete and be one of the best."
